We’ve all been there; sitting at our workstation and we’re playing Solitaire on our computer. Well, not all of us have this luxury because there are many computers and laptops which do not have this much-loved game on there. But, for those who do have Solitaire in some form or another, the game is an absolute joy to play. Whether you’re playing against your friends online whilst you should be working on a boring spreadsheet, Solitaire is unlike other games.

As other classic games such as Doom and Lara Croft are platform games which unlocks the murderous side in you by wanting to hunt down any unsavoury character who you don’t like the look of, Solitaire is a gentle game which uses simple tactics. These tactics do not require any use of guns or violence, but merely the power of the mind. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Solitaire is a game which promotes peaceful thinking and one which asks questions of how a particular card will fit onto another. It’s a game which Jeffrey %u2018The Dude'Lebowski would play; at one with yourself whilst trying to win without any form of violence applied, as seen in Lara Croft, albeit performed on a computer.

As Solitaire does not take an age to complete or participate in, it is a game which could be completed during a lunch break or in between sessions when working at home. Solitaire helps you to drift away after other (some might say serious) tasks are completed.

Solitaire is essentially a digital format of a much-loved card game which has been played for generations. As it can be enjoyed at a gentle pace, it is certainly an apt game to play whilst supping a scotch and soda one night, or even during the early hours of the morning when other, more taxing games have been played.

Many years ago (too many!) when I was a kid in the early 1980s, there was a chip shop near my school. Every day my me and my mates would congregate in here and huddle around what was deemed by many to be ‘the coolest arcade machine on Earth’. It was, of course, ‘Scramble’. Oh, and every so often I seem to remember that one of us would actually purchase a bag of chips… However, the majority of our dinner money was spent on this awesome game!

If the display stand for the chippy had mentioned that there was a ‘Scramble game inside'it would probably have sparked an all-out invasion of the premises However, as it happened, only a select few of us knew about this cutting-edge arcade machine. Needless to say, we perfected ‘Scramble'over a pretty short space of time and we could all manage to make a single 10p coin last for what seemed like forever!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Games may have moved on (and in a very big way too I would like to add), but there is still something really magical about ‘Scramble’. Of course, I’m talking about us hardcore ‘retro gamers'when I say this. After all, steering a small white spaceship around super-narrow tunnels and dropping blocky-looking bombs on fuel depots will probably not cut it for the gamers of today…

I used to think that my love for ‘Scramble'was merely tangled-up with nostalgia; surely I was looking back at a rather crappy video game through rose-tinted spectacles? It hadn’t really been that exciting, had it?? However, after I came across a PC version of it one day, I realised that it was every bit as good as I had remembered. ‘Scramble'may now be around thirty years old, but it is still bloody good fun!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The more popular video games these days, that you see advertise on pop up displays and banner ads, have certain things in common, they tend to be fun to play and they have good music and a unique visual design which sees them above the others. This is what the game Unstoppable Gorg brings to the table with its musty, from the ‘50’s sci fi scenes and graphics. The fact that you know what will be up next won’t take away from the beauty of the game.

The game has a world create in such a way that you will start out with a big smile on your face as you take on the aliens and rescue that good looking damsel in distress. For the first levels the witty writing coupled with dialogue that is intentionally poorly delivered will do for the basic user. Once you have passed the first level you will have to focus more on the approach to be taken to tower defense especially with so much being thrown at you.

Traditional tower defense games are usually have levels that are grid based, not so with Unstoppable Gorg. Each level presents to you a plant or some craft that orbits it and allows you to set up satellites.

As you move up the levels the game get harder and trickier. There are twenty-one levels and by the eighth level the aliens or Gorgs are almost unstoppable. It’s as if they want players to be playing the game over and over again.

The presentation of the game is very good with the feel and look of the cut scenes and the menus being truly fantastic. The graphics is good and works well with the kind of feel the game is going for. The sound and sound effect is more than adequate and work well with the game.

Unstoppable Gorg is one game most will enjoy playing and will find very challenging. Expect to spend long hours with this one.

The game is a continuation so to say of Ridge Racer 7 and one can easily make out that it belongs to the series in the true and complete sense. The races however are fast, the experiences twitchy and the circuit has been very well designed, added with visuals too, all of which make the game an interesting one. The game has the arcade style handling, with a wide background akin to pop up stands, which has the player spending quite a lot of time careering around the track sideways or skidding corners. This gives the game an unrealistic touch.

The controls are however tight and the array of cars that can be customised by the player is large. There is the unfortunate missing equal or proportional number of circuits to drive around as the number of variable cars. Online multiplayer feature is also missing in this game.

For those who are playing a Ridge Racer game for the first time there is lack of any tutorial to guide the novice through the nuances of the game. There is also the difference where cars tend to remain glued to the road or track at speeds of 300 kmph or above. The car at this speed range is not affected by other cars knocking at its sides or even road bumps upon which the car plies across.

There is however the time when the player has to apply brakes to manoeuvre a corner and would note that other cars zoom past at this stage. It is therefore for the player to pick up the trick of drifting towards the corner and after taking the curve to accelerate onwards. The car would be noted as maintaining its position and the player needs only to make sure that the direction it points is the correct one. There is also the option in the game where the drifting process is attached with one hot key and this makes the process quite easy.

All in all, it is a racing game with minor difference in play.

Chess and computer games actually have more in common then people think. Before the days of Mario, Zelda, Sonic et al, chess was the game of choice for players everywhere. Electronic chess made a small but significant entry into the video game market early in the 1980s, but it proves a testament to the lasting nature of the sport that chess is still very much a thriving entity whereas many computer games have long since gone to the great cartridge in the sky.

The Regency Chess Company specialises in sourcing and securing the best chess, Mah Jong and Backgammon sets from around the world to sell to aficionados and professionals globally. Nintendo specialises in enthralling gamers across the world with its strategic mix of role play, action and puzzle games. In this respect both companies are similar. Nintendo and The Regency Chess Company specialise in quality rather then quality – Nintendo has oft been criticised for not having enough first, second and third party titles available for their platform. Yet the titles that Nintendo does produce in house and via second and third party developers are amongst some of the best in the market.

This November sees the release of ‘The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword’; a title that Nintendo fans have been waiting for since the 2006 debut of the Wii console and the last Zelda game. Since ‘The Twilight Princess'was not originally designed for the Wii (it started life and was indeed also published on the Gamecube), the release of Skyward Sword has generated even more excitement. The Regency Chess Company is also set to release some new and original chess sets in the run up to Christmas. Both companies are positioning themselves carefully in terms of their marketing and production to ensure maximum customer satisfaction. Whilst their size and product is markedly different, the mechanics and audience remain very similar. Both sets of customers know that they can rely on high quality and expect nothing less. Many companies would buckle under the pressure, but looking at both Nintendo and The Regency Chess Company it is hard to imagine either doing so.

Nintendo has timed the release of its latest Zelda game perfectly – this month the franchise celebrates its 25th Anniversary. This marks a perfect tie in to launch the new game and capture the nostalgia amongst the masses. A concert has even been organised before the release of the new game at London’s Hammersmith Apollo where a full symphony orchestra and a choir will perform new arrangements of pieces from the series'25 year history. As a marketing strategy this is a genius move on the part of Nintendo. Not only does it stay away from the traditionally more aggressive ‘in your face'strategies of other companies eager to promote the latest ‘Call of Duty'or ‘Assassin’s Creed'entries, but it shows just how seriously the quality of the title is being taken. For a company to treat its product in this manner shows that they take the customer seriously and intend to deliver nothing less then the very best.

The Regency Chess Company is marketing itself in a similarly clever way. Knowing what customers expect from it, it has already made a wide variety of chess boards and pieces available online to purchase. Perhaps the genius stroke on the part of this company though has been the way in which it guides people through the different products they can buy by showcasing them with online videos and having a full showroom available for customers to physically try out the various sets.

Two different companies. Two very similar and high quality marketing strategies. The worlds of chess and computer games have learnt a lot from each other.

Back in 1994, Fast Draw Showdown came into the gamer’s limelight. The game had been introduced to the WiWare and lately to the PS3 users with PlayStation Move support. This game requires every player to own a Playstation Move controller to play it.

With Move in hand, you choose the difficulty and commence on a tour through a Western town with people having death wishes. Now this is where the game takes flight into its almost real to life feel and entertainment value.

The game starts by pointing the Wii Remote at the ground which will allow the player to watch a funny grown man in a video. The Wii Remote should be raised and shoot to the man. If you can shoot faster, you will be given another short video that shows the death of your opponent.

Fast Draw requires just minimal skill to advance. There will be no problems until you reach level 6 where you can notice the spike of the game’s difficulty. There are three difficulty levels of the game including the Easy, Normal and Difficult features. But keep in mind that like Data quality services, the results are only as good as the person doing the work, so play hard.

The displayed characters of the game are somewhat stereotypical and not really as funny as they seem like. A player can observe that every opponent seems to wish to kill you without any reason. The violence that happened in the game is comical and should not traumatize anyone while looking at a moving show.

The Warlock of firetop mountain is an amazing book. A classic in fact. Written by Steve Jackson of Steve Jackson games (http://www.sjgames.com) years ago if was one of the seminal fighting fantasy books of it’s time - infact THE fighting fantasy book of its time.
So when I heard that not only were they going to produce a nintendo DS game version of it I was excited. When I realised that it had already been released I immediately jumped onto my computer to down load it to my R4 card so I could play it straight away.

So having made it to firetop mountain (aka having downloaded the game and transferred it onto my R4 card) I started playing the game. Now at first I have to say it was great! I loved it! It had all the elements that the book had that I enjoyed so much. The weapons, customability, level ups… and most of all - the orks! My god how I missed the Orks - I really felt that they had done their best to stay true to the game-book and really include all the original elements that were so fantastical.

So ready here comes the let down…. the game sucks! I mean it is really addictive to begin with. All the great things about the original game come rushing back to me, the creatures, the warlock, the chests - and good god I really want to make it through the maze to meet the fabled dragon from the story…

.. however the game just sucks. It is too difficult when you are playing an archer for starters. It has gotten to the point where I just die all the time. Death has little backlash, so it doesn’t matter. Monsters re-spawn all the the time, so you do a really hard fight and feel great, only to pop back into the room a few minutes later to find the bad guys are back and this time you have no fire ball scrolls to help you defeat the bad guy!

I the end I just gave up. I was so glad I didn’t pay for it. Usually I feel a little guilt over doing downloads to the R4i card as it does screw the makers over, and sometimes I even pay for the game afterwards if the game was really good. But this time I felt nothing at all. The game sucked, and I was really glad that Steve did not get my money.

If you are thinking of buying this game - don’t. Download it to your R4 card first, realise it sucks, then buy it as a birthday present for that cousin that you hate but still have to go to his birthday party.

So that is the warlock of firetop mountain download review. I wish it were better news, but sometimes the truth is just the truth and there is no getting away from it.

Who remembers the good old days when you would go to the local arcade, put in a quarter and play Pac-Man or Galaga? These two games have survived over all these years and still seem as beloved as ever. In Pac-Man & Galaga Dimenstions, they have gone 3D and added four other games to play as well.

Let’s start with Pac-Man Tilt. This is still the same old Pac Man with a tilting board courtesy of your 3DS. It’s not really in 3D, since the screen would go crazy, but it is still a good game. It gives you up to 30 stages, each one more thrilling and harder to get through than the last one.

The next game is Galaga 3D Impact and while it is actually in 3D and appears very interesting, it fizzes somewhat when you find out there are only four levels to go through with the fifth level being the final boss. And if that’s not bad enough, you cannot save your game so you have to make sure you have time to sit through all five levels.

Dimensions also has both original versions of Pac Man and Galaga because after all, we love the classics but some people prefer the newer version, just like business persons will prefer the newer octopus hr software over similar but older software. The only difference is the opening screen which does appear in 3D – so the characters pop out at you and you seem to be staring down through the image.

Also included are reboots of Pac Man Championship Edition and Galaga Legions. And while it’s always nice to get six games in one, I didn’t find these games all that thrilling or more interesting that the originals.

Many gamers complain about the lack of truly memorable boss encounters in the more open play style of game that permeates the markets, but there are still some crackers to be found out there.

Some of the most memorable boss encounters can be found in games such as ‘Okami'on the Wii, ‘Castlevania: Lord of Shadows'on the Xbox 360, and ‘Dead Space 2'across both Xbox and PS3. In fact some of the most berserk boss encounters in the past decade can be found just by playing ‘Bayonetta'for a few hours. What makes these boss encounters even more exciting is the advent of online gaming. Broadband has allowed users to work together against a common foe or watch another player squash a particularly gruesome boss congratulating them in doing so. Whilst there is still a concerned section condemning the health value of computer games, more recent studies such as one published in The Sun last year reveal that in fact boss encounters can improve quick thinking and reflexes.

Sharing boss encounters on your phone has become common practice as well. However to do this properly it becomes essential in making sure you have a flat rate global data roaming service included as part of your deal with your service provider. The broadband needed to share your cool moves requires a reliable provider otherwise you may as well be playing in the dark again.

Don’t be disheartened by the advent of more open ended game play entering the market as there are still many magnificent boss battles to be had in the modern era.

I work for an it support company and I am always getting calls about faulty game systems from frantic customers who were clearly in the middle of bashing the boss! One of the more recent calls was for help with a fault on the SEGA master system, and here was me thinking that everyone has a PS3 or Xbox now. It was this call that made me start reminiscing about the good old days, remembering all the time spent on the SEGA swimming around as a dolphin in ECHO and fighting Robotnik with Sonic. And then something really started to bug me, I couldn’t remember the name of this game I used to play, one of my all time favourite’s as well. Then it hit me, the game was Dizzy Egg!!

So this is a tribute to Dizzy really and all the hours of entertainment he gave me, where would I have been without him. The all time best game involving Dizzy had to be Fantastic Dizzy. The storyline involved an evil wizard called Zak who kidnapped Dizzy’s girlfriend Daisy and hid her away in a castle in the clouds, and of course it was Dizzy’s job to rescue her (doesn’t it sound romantic). The game had a variety of locations and one of my favourites had to be Dizzy’s home which was a complex of Yolkfolk secret treehouses where all the other eggs like Dizzy lived.

The adventures Dizzy went on in the game were just classic, he only carried three items at a time so you did have to think logically, and his movements were definitely not very fluid so it wasn’t easy! And I suppose the worst thing was you couldn’t save the game so if you died you had to start right back at the beginning! But despite all that Dizzy Egg is still up there in my favourite games of all time. Thank you Dizzy you were certainly no ordinary egg!
